The Asian Kho Kho Federation is pleased to announce its official recognition by the International Kho Kho Federation, marking a significant milestone in the development of Kho Kho across Asia.
The federation, representing 11 member nations, will serve as the premier governing body for the sport in the Asian region, with the next step being to take the sport to the Olympics.
The Kho Kho World Cup 2025 wrapped up in New Delhi on January 19, with India emerging as champions in both the men’s and women’s categories, defeating Nepal in both finals at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
In the men’s final, India dominated Nepal with a commanding 54-36 victory, while the women’s final saw India triumph 78-40.
This inaugural edition of the World Kho Kho Cup, supported by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), featured 20 men’s teams and 19 women’s teams. Both the men’s and women’s tournaments began with group stages, followed by knockout rounds.
Kho Kho is played by two teams, each with 12 players, but only 7 players from each team take the field.
The game takes place on a rectangular field, typically around 29 by 16 meters.

The game begins with the chasers kneeling along the central lane, facing alternate directions.
The active chaser starts chasing runners from the opposing team.
Only one player (the active chaser) is allowed to chase at a time.
The active chaser can run in either direction along the central lane but cannot cross it or turn back.
Runners dodge the chasers by running around the central lane or using poles as a barrier.
Once a runner is tagged, they are out of the game until the inning changes.
